About Matthew Wolfson

Matthew Wolfson is a criminal defence lawyer based in Ottawa.  He represents clients facing criminal and regulatory charges throughout Ontario and across Canada (except Quebec). With more than a decade of courtroom and litigation experience, he is a Partner at David Anber’s Law Office and is known for thoughtful strategy, strong courtroom advocacy, and steady guidance during high-stakes proceedings.

He is licensed to practice law in Ontario, but is permitted to practice criminal law across Canada (advance permission is required for Quebec).  He is a member of the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa and is also a member of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association.

He appears before all levels of court in Ontario and has experience conducting trials, contested hearings, sentencing proceedings, and appeals. He has successfully represented clients in jury trials, serious sexual assault prosecutions, and complex bail matters, including the at the Ontario Court of Appeal.  

Throughout his career, Matthew has approached his cases with clear communication; meticulous preparation; and calm, strategic approach during stressful and often life-altering situations.

Before joining David Anber’s Law Office in 2016, Matthew completed his articles with the Barrie Crown Attorney’s Office, providing him with valuable insight into both sides of the criminal justice system.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, a Canadian law degree (Juris Doctor) and an American law degree (Juris Doctor).
